Discover a personalised service - what happens during a hypnotherapy session with me....

It's completely normal and understandable to feel apprehensive or even nervous before reaching out for any therapy. Having been on the receiving side of therapy myself, I completely understand how you may be feeling and please be rest assured that you will only be greeted by warmth, kindness and compassion at Empowered Minds Hypnotherapy. So lets start by setting your mind at rest by outlining what happens during a hypnotherapy session with me so you know what to expect....


Initial FREE telephone consultation


Before meeting with you either online or in person for our first session, we would already have been introduced to each other during a telephone consultation. This is so I can understand a bit about you, what you're requiring help with and to ensure I'm suitable for you as a hypnotherapist and that I'm able to work with you. As a registered member of The Hypnotherapy Society, I adhere to code of ethics to ensure I act responsibly, professionally and in the best interests of my clients. This sometimes means I am not able to work with everyone and in some case means I may need to refer you to another professional.


The First Hypnotherapy session:


Hypnotherapy isn't a one size fits all solution and I aim to treat the cause as well as the symptom to give you the highest probability of achieving your positive outcomes, so I have outlined below what typically happens in the first session.


  1. Initial Consultation: When we meet first the time the session will start with a consultation, so I can learn more about you as a person, more about the background to your presenting issue and what your goals are for the outcome of the treatment. This is a very relaxed conversation to enable me to provide a personalised treatment plan to you.


  2. Induction: After we have had our chat, I will ask you if you would like to by hypnotised and I will invite you to sit on a comfy chair/recliner where we will start with a relaxation. This is what we refer to as a progressive muscle relaxation where I will be talking to you in my hypnotic voice to encourage you to relax from the head to the toes - a bit like in a guided meditation This may involve deep breathing exercises or visualisation techniques.


  3. Suggestion Phase: Once you are relaxed, I will then offer positive suggestions tailored to your specific needs. For example, if you are working on reducing anxiety, the suggestions may focus on calmness and confidence. You will be fully present during this process and will just feel like you're in a trance, perhaps drifting off on different lines of thought but you will be in full control at all times.


  4. Awakening: After the session, I will gently bring you back to full awareness. You will feel relaxed and refreshed and able to go about your day as normal, feeling positive towards your outcomes.


  5. Feedback: After the session, you will have a chance to share your experience and ask questions.

    Your first session is an opportunity to learn and grow.


  6. Follow-Up: Depending on your presenting issue it may be recommended to have follow-up sessions to reinforce the suggestions and track your progress. I may provide you with some tasks and an MP3 recording to listen to in between sessions.


    All of his will be discussed in your treatment plan during the consultation as each session is unique and tailored to your individual needs.
